Jaw Mechanism Prototype

Once i had done some designs for the mechanisms i did some simple prototypes from the designs. I used basic materials so that i could quickly experiment to see how and if  they work how i wanted them too.

The first one work very simply and which i thought was the more effective of the two, it work by simply using gravity to let the mouth fall open and then using a piece of string to close the mouth. I think that this would be effective once it was inside the puppet as it would be attached to a ring that would go on the finger and would be pretty simple to make the mouth move.

The second mechanism i created used an elastic band to keep the mouth shut and then used the string to open the mouth. This didn't work quite as well as the first one as the tension in the rubber band made had to open the mouth.

Jaw Designs

As i had look at some existing designs for a puppet jaw i then did a few designs so that i was able to adapt a design so that it will fit in the hare.

Puppet Jaw Mechanisms

I wanted to add moving jaw to the hare puppet as in the story the hare speaks and i thought that it would look better if the mouth move enabling the audience to see that it was the hare that was speaking. So i then started looking at designs so that i would have some idea of how to adapt it to my hare puppet, i intend to do something similar to the prototype that i created for the parade horse. I think that the prototype that i created for the horse worked really well as it was so simple and did the job that it was intended to do perfectly so i don't see any reason that i can't use the same or similar design just adapting it so that it will fit inside the hare.

Hare Puppet Prototype

After looking at the puppet used in the secret garden production i decided to create one that is very similar as a prototype for a puppet for the hare out of The Two Brothers. I think that the puppet has turned out well and look good, i especially like the head as it was simple to make but still looks quite real so that that it is identifiable as a hare or rabbit. There are a few thinks that i don't like about it and i would need changing the body for one as it only made from card board it is very flimsy so it make it difficult to support it from that or of it back as it is a bit top heavy as also think that it doesn't look as good having thin body.

The other problem with it is the legs as they don't move very well and keep getting stuck or moving too far back so i would need to look at creating better mechanisms and a better way to attach the legs.

Research Trip - Yorkshire Wildlife Park

As i may be creating one of a few different animals that are in the two brothers fairy tale we decided to go to the Yorkshire wildlife park so i was able to see some animals and she how they moved.

Pet Shop Trip

As i was in the process of creating a prototype for the a hare puppet but was struggling a little to get the face to look like it should. I ended up taking a trip to a two of the pet shops near by to look at the rabbits that they had so i could see how their head look.

Presentation

Working in pairs we were tasked with doing a presentation based on the area that we wanted to go in to and a period in its history, so i decided to do mine about theatre. I started looking in to what thinks change the theatre of the time such as issues like race, sexuality and politics.

One of the main thinks that we had to do for the presentation was to present it in an interesting way, we did this by using sock puppets to do a performance to get our information across. I think that this was a good way to do our presentation as it made it more interesting rather that just giving people information.
